Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Envista’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Bronco Sport (245/45R19 vs. 235/65R17).

The Envista Preferred’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 60 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Bronco Sport’s standard 65 series tires. The Envista’s optional tires have a lower 45 series profile than the Bronco Sport’s optional 60 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Envista offers optional 19-inch wheels. The Bronco Sport’s largest wheels are only 18-inches.

The Envista has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Bronco Sport doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Suspension and Handling

The Envista Avenir handles at .83 G’s, while the Bronco Sport Outer Banks pulls only .79 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Envista Sport Touring executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Bronco Sport Outer Banks (27.9 seconds @ .59 average G’s vs. 28.6 seconds @ .56 average G’s).

Chassis

The Buick Envista may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 300 to 700 pounds less than the Ford Bronco Sport.

The Envista is 9.2 inches shorter in height than the Bronco Sport, making the Envista much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

For excellent aerodynamics, the Envista has standard flush composite headlights. The Bronco Sport has recessed headlights that spoil its aerodynamic shape and create extra drag.

Cargo Capacity

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier, especially for short adults, the Envista offers an optional power liftgate, which opens and closes automatically by pressing a button. The Bronco Sport doesn’t offer a power liftgate.

Towing

The Envista can be flat towed on all four wheels (dinghy towed), allowing recreational vehicle owners to bring it with them on the road. When they reach their destination, the Envista can be unhitched and driven around locally. The Bronco Sport can’t be towed flat on the ground.

Servicing Ease

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Buick service is better than Ford. J.D. Power ranks Buick 9th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 17% lower rating, Ford is ranked 22nd.

Ergonomics

The Envista’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Bronco Sport does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The Envista’s front and rear power windows all lower with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Bronco Sport’s standard power windows’ passenger windows don’t open automatically. The Bronco Sport Outer Banks/Badlands’ rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to lower them fully.

The Envista’s optional wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically according to the amount of rainfall on the windshield. The Bronco Sport’s intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

The Envista Avenir’s standard rear view mirror and optional side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Bronco Sport offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Buick Envista offers an optional wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the front center console. The Bronco Sport doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

Recommendations

Consumer Reports® recommends both the Buick Envista and the Ford Bronco Sport, based on reliability, safety and performance.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Envista third among small suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The Bronco Sport isn’t in the top three.
